Game mode
From TeeWiki
A game mode is a type of game you can play in Teeworlds. It defines how the game proceeds and ends. Teeworlds currently supports three official game modes: DM (Death Match) , TDM (Team Death Match) and CTF (Capture The Flag).
The 0.5.0 release
With the 0.5.0 release several new game modes were added to distinguish between the regular game and the large number of mods that had become in existence. Previously this had been too difficult for many members, which resulted in many players who didn't experience the regular game modes. The developers stated that this wasn't the way they had envisioned for the future and that in their opinion the new classification system would lead more players to the regular servers. This was combined with a Pure Server Only setting which the developers enabled by default so you don't see any modified servers when you start the game for the first time. You need to manually disable this setting for these servers to appear. Now the game shows all possible game modes to sort on.
Teeworlds is becoming more and more of a gaming platform where people modify, test and experiment with different game types etc. The whole situation with server mods are crazy and dangerous like it is now. Matricks, 25-01-2009.
With 0.5.1 also custom maps where disabled by default. This setting must also be disabled manually to see all servers. This different user approach was criticized because it damaged the core principle of Teeworlds where user created custom content had always created the majority of the games success. The developers defended their new ideology by stating that new players should first have a clear vision of what the regular game as it's released stands for. Later on they're free to play mods and custom maps, but not until they have spent at least some time on the regular game first.
No! no modifications at all. I'm gonna be really hard on this one because we wanna define how vanilla teeworlds work and we don't want any more bug reports that are for other mods etc. 0.5.1 will filter out non-standard maps as well per default. New players should get a feel of what teeworlds is, then venture out for other game types etc. Matricks, 25-01-2009.
Server bans
If you run a modified server while keeping the game listed as a pure server you'll be banned from the master server and therefor unable to play the game. The game modes DM, TDM and CTF can only be used for the regular version of the game, without any modifications to either weapons, physics or other server settings. This server policy is actually the first time in the history of Teeworlds where developers actively started to monitor their servers and set an ingame rule for their players to abide too.
To lose your ban you can contact the developers team by mail or in this forum topic. Your ban will then be lifted up to seven days after the request was sent.
